No. 4 - Calypso bulbosa - Postcard Set of 10
Calypso bulbosa, also known as the Calypso orchid, is a species of terrestrial orchid that is native to Canada, across the northern US, and from Alaska down to California.
As with many terrestrial orchid species, Calypso bulbosa requires an associated mycorrhizal association between fungi and their seeds in order to germinate. Their seed capsules may contain between 10 and 20,000 seeds each, depending on the effectiveness of pollination.
Because of numerous threats, all orchid species in the world are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in addition to local and state laws.
