Geissorhiza radians, commonly called wynkelkie or “wine cup” flower, is a bulbous geophyte in the Iris family (Iridaceae) native to the Southwestern Cape. This species can be found growing in seasonably marshy areas during the winter rainfall period before going dormant during the dry summer.
G. radians is one of the most well known species in the genus. In the wild, flowers pollinated by bees and Hopliine beetles produce seed that drops close to the mother plants. This allows for large, dense clumps to form in moist areas, creating a vibrant show during the blooming season.
